The Weekly Dish: Vegan fast-casual spot opens in Midtown Miami … & more
The Weekly Dish is a TRD recurring feature that showcases the latest in South Florida’s restaurant openings, leases and sales.
Miami is getting some new street food, vegan fast-casual, Tex-Mex and more.
GLAM | Midtown Miami
Chef Todd Erickson of “HuaHua’s Taqueria” and “Haven” is now in Midtown Miami.
Erickson designed the menu and kitchen for the vegan, fast-casual spot called GLAM, which stands for Green Living Animals Matter. Owner Janette Miller, a designer, took over the former Midtown Oyster Bar space to open the restaurant. Nuno Grullon, of Cafe Roval, will lead the kitchen.
The 1,500-square-foot space, at 3301 Northeast First Avenue, seats about 60 with indoor and outdoor dining. The all-vegan menu will feature items like Jackfruit “Al Pastor” Tacos, Farro Risotto and Palm Springs Date Shake.
Miller took over Graspa Group‘s lease for Midtown Oyster Bar. She could not immediately be reached for comment.
Ember and Kaido | Miami Design District
Two new restaurants are slated to open in the Miami Design District next year.
Chef Brad Kilgore is leasing 6,000 square feet on two floors of Paradise Plaza, according to a press release. Ember, on the ground floor, will be a wood-fired American bistro with an open kitchen, and Kaido will be a Japanese-style cocktail lounge and restaurant on the second floor.
Lease details were not available.
Chefs Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Joël Robuchon are also headed for the Design District later this year. Both will open restaurants in Paradise Plaza and in the Palm Court.
Baja Bao | Wynwood
The Pubbelly Group will launch its street-food concept in Wynwood next month, according to the Miami New Times.
Baja Bao will open July 14 on Northeast Second Street, and serve bao buns with taco filings from countries like Argentina and Mexico out of a trailer designed to look like a food truck. It’s a partnership with Anheuser-Busch InBev and will be part of Veza Sur Brewing Co.’s new brewery. [Miami New Times]
Chuy’s | Doral
Chuy’s is opening its first Miami location in October.
The Tex-Mex restaurant group will open at 8001 Northwest 36th Street in Doral, according to a press release. The Doral location will mark the ninth in Florida and the 90th restaurant for Chuy’s.
Mixed-use projects like CityPlace Doral, Downtown Doral and Midtown Doral have added a number of new restaurants to the city, including Maroosh-Mediterranean Restaurant, Brimstone Woodfire Grill, BurgerFi and the Halal Guys.
